It’s our future...

How will we go?

Where Are We Now?

As our residents and businesses have flourished, transportation in Hillsborough County has reached a critical junction. Now we have the opportunity to come together as a community and decide what our transportation future will look like.

With three realistic paths before us, it is helpful to know what each potential future could look like. Our hope is that we can coalesce around a vision that allows our county to continue flourishing well into the future.

3 Transportation Pathways

Stay The Course

We do not raise any additional funding for transportation.

On this path, we need to pull money from other programs and services to address the growing backlog of transportation needs. Congestion likely continues, and quality of life decreases as other programs lose funding.
No Additional Investment (Sales Tax)
Reactive Solution
Methodical, Prolonged Progress
Continued Congestion

Address Our Challenges

We invest moderately in our transportation future.

On this path, we raise enough additional funding to address the current backlog of transportation issues facing our county. Many roads get resurfaced or widened, and we begin to invest in bike lanes and strategic bus system improvements.

Bus System Improvements

Solve The Problem

We invest fully in our transportation future.

On this path, we raise enough funding to address all current needs AND design a modern transportation network. Options like Bus Rapid Transit and Light Rail reduce congestion long-term and provide the capacity to handle our growing population.

Common Questions
(We know you’re asking them.)

Why do we need more money for transportation? Are current funds being misspent?

Hillsborough County has been growing very quickly! Even making economical funding decisions, we are unable to stretch the budget far enough to cover current transportation needs.

Are we just picking up the tab for undertaxed developers?

Closing a loophole that did not collect enough taxes from developers has been a positive step, but it is not sufficient to solve our transportation issues.

Where can I see what projects are being considered for the future?

There are many useful (though occasionally dense) documents on planned projects at GoHillsborough’s website.

How can I voice my opinion on our transportation future?

Come out to a GoHillsborough meeting! We want to hear your opinions. (It’s why we’ve held over 50 public meetings so far, with more to come.) Find an upcoming meeting.
